The Hotel Boom in Zurich

Study by the Zurich Hoteliers’ Association and JLL on the hotel boom in Zurich

January 13, 2020

In the Zurich region, new hotels have increasingly entered the market in recent years. The number of hotel rooms has risen by around 25% since 2010. The new supply has been absorbed relatively well because the number of overnight stays has increased by a similar magnitude over the same period. In some cases, however, this was due to lower room prices. If new hotels continue to come onto the market, pressure on room prices could persist and even intensify in the years ahead. Eighteen new hotels with around 2,400 rooms in total are currently planned to be built in the Zurich region by 2022. In a study commissioned by the Zürcher Hotelier-Verein (Zurich Hoteliers’ Association, ZHV), JLL examined the hotel boom in Zurich.
